The Blue Jay has a bad rap for being the jerk of the bird world;
He stands his ground. He stands out in crowd. He speaks his truth, loud and clear.
If that’s what being an a-hole was, I’d gladly call myself such. (Mockingbirds are the real jerks, anyway.)
Scientifically speaking, his blue feathers are a trick of the light, but that speaks to keeping our eyes open.
This guy followed me a few days before I painted him. He still shows up when it’s time for me to open my mouth or my eyes and stay sassy and stay “True Blue Jay”.
The original blue jay is now perched in a private collection.
