I am pleased to announce I am a juried finalist in Baterby’s Art Gallery 2012 Olympic themed artist competition. My acrylic on plaster piece, “Splash”, honors the 1st female Olympians of Qatar. All finalist work will be auctioned off on Aug. 10th, with proceeds benefiting the Special Olympics of Florida. The winning artist’s work will be featured for several months in Baterby’s Art Gallery alongside the work of contemporary artists and masters, such as Goya, Dali, and Matisse.
While “popularity” contests are never really my thing ( I believe artists should support and nurture each other ) this cause is very close to my heart. The Special Olympics has been an amazing and supportive program for my awesome sister. For over 20 years, they have provided her and my family a source of enrichment, socialization, self-esteem, and inspiration. Bringing awareness and fundraising for this organization is paramount. Also, I am truly excited to tell the story of women athletes that are trailblazing their way into history and inspiring a new generation of female athletes in the Arab world.
You can help me spread the word for Special Olympics and tell the story of these inspirational women athletes by voting in the social media portion of the contest.
